We documented 37 species of amphibians and reptiles, recording 20 Philippine-endemic species, three exotic anurans, two threatened reptiles, and one unidentified species of lizard. Species richness was higher in a mixed agricultural area (18 species, n = 108 individuals) compared to secondary growth forest (17 species, n = 86 individuals).Greg Schneider, research museum collections manager for the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology’s division of reptiles and amphibians, holds a jar containing salamander specimens, Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, in Ann Arbor, Mich. They are part of a sizable donation of reptile and amphibian specimens from Oregon State University.Whether risks of pesticides to amphibians and reptiles are addressed by surrogate taxa used in risk assessment is currently under debate. In order to develop a scientifically sound and robust risk assessment scheme, information needs to be gathered to examine whether fish, birds and mammals are valid surrogates for amphibians and reptiles.

During 2018 (32 fieldwork days) and 2019–2020 (three control fieldwork days), we found 20,457 and 2231 road-killed animals, respectively. We recorded nine amphibian and eight reptile species. Amphibians (93%) were more vulnerable to traffic than reptiles (7%). The number of killed amphibians and reptiles varied between the seasons. In a survey of the incidence of cannibalism among amphibians and reptiles, Polis & Myers (1985) cited 45 papers dealing with cannibalism and/or oophagg in 49 species from 16 families in five orders of Reptiles. Most of the reports were extracted from studies that analysed diet rather than focusing on the significance of cannibalism.Amphibian & Reptile Conservation (ARC) is an open-access international journal that is published twice per year (semi-annually).
