According burn rate charts, some have Accurate 1680 closer to the 4227s than the 4198s, while others have it closer to the 4198s than the 4227s. There is no reason why it wouldn't produce impressive velocities in the 45-70 ...
The .45-70 Govt is very effective out to around 150 yards with minimal bullet drop, but it’s capable of great accuracy and longer range shooting as well. Using modern, smokeless powder, most of the ammunition manufacturers currently produce a wide variety of loads of varying power for the .45-70. If you are not having good accuracy with cast bullets, don't blame the micro-groove barrel - they can shoot just as accurately as a Ballard cut if they ... the difference between unique and universal isn't the burn rate it is in the percentage of the powder consumed. 12grs of Unique on the 45-70 is only gonna burn about 11.8-.9grs of the total before the bullet exits the muzzle. 12 grs of universal will burn all 12 grs of universal and it will produce a few hundred more PSI in the bargain.
