In 1640 Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl of Strafford, faithful supporter of Charles I, was impeached for ‘high misdemeanours’. His son, William Wentworth, lived a quiet life by comparison.He was created Earl of Strafford in January 1640, but impeached for treason in the same year.
