Maybe that pipe is tipping up and pooled water drips? Does it drip all the time? If yes, leak is from worn valve seals. The delta adapter has a set screw as you found out. Inside the adapter is a o ring, though the brass looks new enough. Tip of the pipe should be sanded very smooth.Simply turn the tub spout in a counterclockwise motion. You will need to pull slightly as you turn the fixture to engage any remaining stripped threads on the tub spout. Once you remove the spout, discard it and replace it. Many times when a tub spout spins freely, the pipe’s threaded adapter may be damaged as well.
